Sigh....

ColdFusion

Web development is hard work, and don’t let anyone tell you any different!!!!

Ok, maybe I should restate that, CORRECT web development is hard work. I came to this realization when working on two of my side projects this weekend. I guess I have always known it was hard work, but when I do development at work as my job I guess I just don’t notice how much time it takes up. I have to be at work anyway right? Might as well work. But when you are at home doing development on your own time you really begin to notice how much time it takes.

Sure I could just slap some procedural code together for theses projects and call them done, but I want to do them right you know? OO design, CFCs, all that good stuff and lets face it, creating bean, gateway and DAO objects takes time right?? However that time doesn’t always translate into what the end user will see in a project which is a bit frustrating.

Oh well, I shall carry on inspired buy others like Dave Shuck, Aaron Lynch, Ray Camden and Ben Nadel. Someday I’ll have something worth sharing!

Good Day!

I know exactly what you mean, and when that clock rolls around to 1AM (or 2 or 3!) it does seem to take extra long to do it right. BUT! the true joy comes when you need to do maintenance on that code, or add functionality to existing code. So much nicer to revisit if it is well done initially.

As you well know, you *really* notice the time when you don't get to start coding until you have your 3 (in my case) kids bathed, in pjs and, and books read! I am starting to see 2-3am as often as I did in my previous life when I could be found in DJ booths 5 nights a week. Only (amazingly) the "day after" is actually worse now! :)

I hear ya on that one Dave, the little ones come first, and rightly so! I saw 1:00am this morning and I'm feeling the effects right now.
